The U.S. Navy at Villefrance sur mer

Actually, in August 1986, I just wanted to go on holiday on the Cote D'Azur, but on a trip to a small castle near Nice, I spotted some U.S. Navy ships in the small picturesque harbour of Villefrance sur mer. I was no longer interested in the castle and immediately made my way to the harbour.
Eigentlich wollte ich im August 1986 nur Ferien machen an der Cote D'Azur, doch bei einem Ausflug auf eine kleine Burg bei Nizza erblickte ich einige Schiffe der U.S. Navy im kleinen malerischen Hafen von Villefrance sur mer. Die Burg interessierte nicht mehr, ich machte mich unverzüglich auf den Weg zum Hafen.
I had already realised from the mountain that there were few
opportunities for photography. The fishing harbour served as a yacht
harbour and had no pier for ships as large as a frigate and the supply
ships. The ships anchored in the middle of the harbour basin. I borrowed
a boat with an outboard motor (FF 300.--) and drove around the navy
ships and took my pictures. The Navy noticed what I was doing and didn't
like it. After a while, a loudspeaker announcement from the frigate drew
my attention to the law of the sea, which stipulates a minimum distance
of 50 yards from the ship.
So I had to unpack my telephoto lens and keep a greater distance.
Nevertheless, I managed to take some good pictures.
Schon vom Berg aus hatte ich gesehen, dass es wenig Möglichkeiten zum Photographieren gab. Der Fischer-Hafen diente als Yacht-Hafen und hatte keine Mole für so grosse Schiffe wie eine Fregatte und die Versorgungsschiffe. Die Schiffe ankerten in der Mitte des Hafenbeckens. Ich lieh mir kurzum ein Boot mit Aussenborder (FF 300.--) und fuhr um die Schiffe der Navy herum und knipste meine Bilder. Der Navy fiel mein Treiben auf und es missfiel ihr. Nach einiger Zeit machte mich eine Lautsprecher-Durchsage der Fregatte auf das Seerecht aufmerksam, das einen Mindestabstand von 50 Yards vom Schiff vorschreibe.
So musste ich hat mein Tele-Objektiv auspacken und grösseren Abstand halten. Dennoch sind mir einige gute Bilder geglückt.
