Das Air
Tattoo hat eine nun 40 jährige Geschichte. Das erste Air Tattoo fand
1971 auf dem Luftwaffenstützpunkt RAF North Weald statt. Später wurden
die Stützpunkte RAF Greenham Common, RAF Boscombe Down und RAF
Cottesmore verwendet. RAF Fairford ist nun seit 1985 der Austragungsort
für die alljährliche Air Show. |

Neben den konventionellen Transportmaschinen wurden auch diverse Hubschrauber vorgeführt. Hier war die Flugdarbietung der Boeing-Vertoll CH-47D Chinook der RAF besonders eindrücklich. Die meisten weiteren Hubschrauber standen jedoch in der Ausstellung und nahmen am täglichen Flugprogramm nicht teil. |

Solo Demonstrationen |

Höhepunkt der Solo-Demonstrationen war die Vorführung der mächtigen AVRO Vulcan. Der privat betriebene V-Bomber aus der Zeit des kalten Krieges war nach einem Triebwerksschaden erst kurz vor dem RIAT instand gesetzt worden. Ein atemberaubendes Programm bot auch der Boeing-Vertoll HC-3 Chinook der RAF sowie die beiden Tornados der RAF die einen Angriff auf Bodenziele simulierten. |
