Nicht
unbegründet ist der kleine Flughafen von Lukla (Nepal), am Fuße des
gewaltigen Mount Everest, wohl der gefährlichste Flughafen der Welt! Nur
wenige und speziell ausgebildete Piloten wagen überhaupt den Anflug auf
Lukla. Durchstarten: Unmöglich! |

Lukla liegt
auf 2‘866 Meter über Meer und gilt als wichtigster Ausgangs- und
Endpunkt von zahlreichen Himalaya-Expeditionen. Jeweils Ende November
geht die Saison zu Ende. 1964
begann man auf Wunsch von Hillary mit dem Bau einer Schotterpiste, die
anfänglich nur durch Pilatus PC-6 Porter benutzt werden konnte. Heute
Starten- und Landen auf der knapp 500 Meter langen Piste, die 2001
asphaltiert wurde, De Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter, Dornier Do-228,
Pilatus PC-6 Turbo Porter, so wie Helikopter verschiedenster Typen. Nach einer ausgedehnten Schlechtwetterperiode, die uns 7 Tage zur Untätigkeit verdammte, wurde das Wetter endlich besser und der Flugbetrieb konnte wieder aufgenommen werden. In dieser Zeit „stauten“ sich nahezu 2‘500 gestrandete Bergsteiger die auf ihre Ausreise (Flug) nach Katmandu warteten. So auch mein Begleiter und ich! Am ersten Flugtag zählte man über 50 Landungen auf dem kleinen Moutain-Airstrip LUKLA. |

Allerdings sollten Sie folgende Voraussetzungen mitbringen: Gute Gesundheit, Zeit und Muße, offen für allfällige Reiseplanänderungen (Wetter) und wohl das Wichtigste: „Keine Flugangst!“
