Another focus of the collection on the former British base Gatow is the German Air Force. In addition to many aircrafts used in the cold war, several types are also issued which are still in service, such as a Transall and a Tornado fighter jet. In addition to the aircrafts of the German Air Force, the Army and the German Navy are represented with some exhibits. Even the Federal Border Police has issued a helicopter in Gatow.

Ausländische Maschinen

Except of a few British and French aircrafts and a Czech Mig-15 there are unfortunately just a few other armed forces present in Gatow.
This is not surprising, since the development of the German Air Force (West) is actually shown yet on display. The NVA is also a bit too short on static display and the available information on each aircraft type is sometimes rather poorly.

For me, this visit was definitely worthwhile; nevertheless I was able to gain a little insight into the Air Force genres and types of those of the former GDR. Despite the long journeys and a walk, a visit to the Military History Museum in Berlin-Gatow is recommended to all!
