Istanbul are probably one of the most interesting cities in the world. Well known for great spotter locations at the two airports, helpful people and good food but also for shopping in the bazaars of Istanbul. Even oriental buildings, such as mosques are unique here for taking pictures. A unique sixteen million inhabitant’s metropolis like no other city the most varied cultures between Europe and Asia will bring together - and that starts at the Ataturk Airport. Hectic is unparalleled! Loudly discussions between taxi drivers you will hear, honking never stops, negotiations and haggle over every local or tourists can be noticed at any time. What will expect us in the upcoming days; even when visiting the Air Force Museum?
Well, we remain calmly: "Occident meets Orient"

Besides of four large military museums in Turkey, the Turkish Air Force Museum in Istanbul is not only the biggest but also the most important museum in the country's history. More than 60 exhibits on the exhibition grounds and in the buildings shows evidence of the centenary of aviation in Turkey. Witnesses from the military aviation like to inspire the viewer, but also a number of exhibits from the civilian sector are exhibited at the museum. A special section is dedicated to the world's first female military pilot, Sabiha Gökçen named after the Airport on the Asian side of Istanbul.

The museum is located just 500 meters from western seaside, directly near the military part of the airport Istanbul-Atatatürk. It opens Wednesday till Sunday from 9am – 5.30pm. A visit is always worthwhile and should be planned in the morning hours because of the light conditions (backlight).
