In the days when I was young
(1990), my friend Andy Herzog and I visited the Weeks Air Museum at
Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport. The airport is now called Miami
Executive Airport. The then Weeks Air Museum was founded and built in
1986 by the pilot Kermit Weeks. In 1990 the collection included some interesting planes, some were even airworthy. In 1992 the museum was completely destroyed by Hurricane Andrew and most aircraft could not be restored. In November 1995, Kermit Weeks opened the museum under the name Fantasy of Flight at Polk City Airport near Tampa Florida. In 2001, four aviation enthusiasts decided to build a new museum at the Miami Executive Airport. The board of directors of the new museum consisted of its founders: Walter Orth, Larry Ploucha, Vincent Tirado and Tom Righetti. The new Wings Over Miami is a flying museum, which means that the aircraft in the collection are airworthy and flown regularly. |
