 The Piper J-3 Cub is an American light aircraft that was built between 1937 and 1947 by Piper Aircraft. The aircraft has a simple, lightweight design which gives it good low-speed handling properties and short-field performance. The Cub is one of the best known light aircraft of all time. Its simplicity, affordability and popularity, as well as large production numbers with nearly 20,000 built in the United States.

The aircraft is a high-wing, strut-braced monoplane with a large-area rectangular wing. It is powered by an air-cooled piston engine driving a fixed-pitch propeller. Its fuselage is a welded steel frame covered in fabric, seating two people in tandem. The Cub was originally intended as a trainer and had great popularity in this role and as a general aviation aircraft. Due to its performance, it was well suited for a variety of military uses such as reconnaissance, liaison and ground control. It was produced in large numbers during World War II as the L-4 Grasshopper. 		  Der Piper J-3 Cub ist ein amerikanisches Leichtflugzeug, das zwischen 1937 und 1947 von Piper Aircraft gebaut wurde. Das Flugzeug hat ein einfaches, leichtes Design, das gute Eigenschaften bei niedriger Geschwindigkeit und kurz Landung bietet. Die Cub ist eines der bekanntesten Leichtflugzeuge aller Zeiten. Seine Einfachheit, Erschwinglichkeit und Popularität, sowie große Produktionszahlen mit fast 20.000 in den Vereinigten Staaten gebaut.
Das Flugzeug ist ein abgestrebter Hochdecker mit einem großflächigen rechteckigen Flügel. Es wird von einem luftgekühlten Kolbenmotor angetrieben, der einen Propeller antreibt. Sein Rumpf ist ein geschweißter Stahlrahmen, der mit Stoff bezogen ist und zwei Personen im Tandem aufnimmt. Der Cub war ursprünglich als Trainer gedacht und hatte große Popularität in dieser Rolle und als Privatflugzeug. Aufgrund seiner Leistung war es für eine Vielzahl von militärischen Anwendungen wie Aufklärung, Verbindung und BAufklärung gut geeignet. Es wurde in großen Zahlen während des Zweiten Weltkriegs als L-4 Heuschrecke

 The Royal Thai Army took over a few Piper L-4 Cubs from the RTAF. The aircraft were designated บต.๔ BTh-4 (reconnaissance aircraft No. 4) and used for artillery observation.
The Royal Thai Army is said to have operated a total of 22 aircraft.		   Die Royal Thai Army übernahm von der RTAF einige wenige Piper L-4 Cub. Die Maschinen wurden als บต.๔ BTh-4 (Aufklärungsflugzeug Nr. 4) bezeichnet und für Artilleriebeobachtung ver-wendet. 
Insgesamt soll die Royal Thai Army 22 Maschinen betrieben haben
