The Edo Aircraft Corporation
was an established company that produced seaplane floats. In 1946, Edo
designed its first aircraft, the Edo OSE. Two prototype aircraft (designated
XOSE-1) were built and flown in 1946. The XOSE-1 was a single-seat
low-wing cantilever monoplane with a single float and fixed wingtip
stabilizing floats. The wings could be folded for shipboard storage. The
aircraft was designed for a variety of roles including observation and
anti-submarine patrols. Unusually, it was designed to carry a rescue
cell on the underwing hardpoints, which would be capable of carrying a
single person when used for air-sea rescue. Eight production aircraft (designated
XOSE-1) were built to a U.S. Navy order but none were accepted into
service.
A two-seat training conversion was carried out as the XTE-1, but
production TE-2 aircraft were cancelled.
Die Edo Aircraft Corporation war
eine etablierte Firma, die Wasserflugzeuge produzierte. 1946 entwarf Edo
sein erstes Flugzeug, die Edo OSE. Zwei Prototyp-Flugzeuge (XOSE-1 genannt)
wurden 1946 gebaut und geflogen. Die XOSE-1 war ein einsitziger Tiefdecker
mit einem einzelnen Schwimmer und festen stabilisierende Schwim-mern. Die
Flügel könnten für die Lagerung an Bord gefaltet werden. Das Flugzeug wurde
für eine Vielzahl von Rollen entwickelt, darunter Beobachtungs- und
Anti-U-Boot-Patrouillen. Ungewöhnlich war es, eine Rettungszelle unter den
Flügeln zu tragen, die in der Lage sein würde, eine einzige Person zu
tragen. Acht Produktions-flugzeuge (mit der Bezeichnung XOSE-1) wurden nach
einer Bestellung der U.S. Navy gebaut, aber keiner wurde in Betrieb
genommen.
Eine zweisitzige Trainingsmaschie wurde als XTE-1 gebaut, aber Produktion
TE-2 Flugzeuge wurden storniertt.
