The Grumman HU-16 Albatross is an amphibious aircraft build by the Grumman Company, which on 24 first flew in October 1947. In the period 1949 to 1954 were 459 planes were built, and in more than 15 countries used. Primary users were the United States Air Force, U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard, the HU-16 was iused for Search and Rescue  A total of 466 HU-16where built.

Die Grumman HU-16 Albatross ist ein Amphibien-flugzeug der Firma Grumman, das am 24. Oktober 1947 erstmals flog.  In der Zeit von 1949 bis 1954 wurden 459 Maschinen gebaut, die in mehr als 15 Ländern zum Einsatz kamen. Hauptnutzer waren die United States Air Force, US Navy sowie die US Coast Guard, die die HU-16 zur Seenotrettung (Search and Rescue) einsetzten. Insgesamt wurden 466 HU-16 gebaut.

Operational history

Einsatzgeschichte

 

The majority of Albatrosses were used by the U.S. Navy, primarily by the Air Rescue Service,  from coastal naval air stations, both stateside and overseas. It was also employed as an operational support aircraft worldwide and for "skunk runs" from the former NAS Agana, Guam during the Vietnam War.

Die Mehrheit der Albatrosse wurde von der U.S. Navy zur Seenotrettung (Search and Rescue) von den Marinestationen in der USA und Übersee einsetzt. Auch leisteten sie Unterstützung für geheime Operationen in Vietnam von Marinestützpunkt NAS Agana, Guam aus.
