The Consolidated P2Y was a flying boat maritime patrol aircraft. The plane was a parasol monoplane with a fabric covered wing and aluminum hull. Beginning construction in March 1928, the aircraft was ready for its first flight by the end of the year. Lieutenant A. W. Gorton made the first flight out of Anacostia NAS,Washington, DC.
The production contract was opened to other bidders, and the Glenn Martin Company undercut and was awarded the contract to construct the plane as the Martin P3M-1 and P3M-2.

Die Consolidated P2Y war ein Flugboot Seefern-aufklärer. Das Flugzeug war ein Parasol-Eindecker der einen Stoff bezogen Flügel und Rumpf aus Aluminium hatte. Im März 1928 wurde mit dem Bau begonnen, gegen Ende des Jahres war der Erstflug. Lieutenant AW Gorton machte den ersten Flug von Anacostia NAS, Washington, DC.
Der Produktionsauftrag wurde an andere Bieter geöffnet, und der Glenn Martin Firma unterbot Consolidated und erhielt den Auftrag, das Flugzeug wurde als Martin P3M-1 und P3M-2 bezeichnet.

They were serving by mid-1933 with VP- squadrons which made a number of classic long-range formation flights.
