Entwicklung
The R-6 Hoverfly II was developed to improve on the successful R-4. In order to enhance performance a completely new streamlined fuselage was designed and the boom carrying the tail rotor was lengthened and straightened. The main rotor and transmission system of the R-4 was retained. Initial production was by Sikorsky, but most examples were built by Nash-Kelvinator. Some of the later aircraft were fitted with more powerful engines.
Die R-6 Hoverfly II wurde als verbesserte Versicn der R-4 entwickelt. Um die Leistung zu verbessern wurde ein neuer stromlinienförmiger Rumpf entworfen und der Heckausleger verlängert und begradigt. Der Hauptrotor und das Getriebe-System der R-4 wurden beibehalten. Die ersten Maschinen wurden von Sikorsky gebaut aber die meisten Serienmaschinen wurden von Nash-Kelvinator gebaut. Einige der Flugzeuge wurden später mit stärkeren Motoren ausgerüstet.
