The Waco Aircraft Company, Troy, Ohio, was one of the leading American manufacturers of open-cockpit training and sports biplane since 1926. In 1934 two UBF designated XJW-1 were used by the U.S. Navy as hook-up trainers for the Curtiss F9C- Sparrowhawk airship-borne fighters. These were fitted with hooks for engaging the trapeze on the airship USS Macon, and serves as trainers for checking out new pilots in hook-on procedures.
Die Waco Aircraft Company, Troy, Ohio, war seit 1926 einer der führenden amerikanischen Hersteller von Ausbildungs- und Sport-Doppeldeckern mit offenen Cockpits. Im Jahr 1934 wurden von der U.S. Navy zwei UBF, bezeichten als XJW-1 als Hakentrainer für die Curtiss F9C- Sparrowhawk Jagdmaschinen verwendet. Diese wurden mit Haken zum Einhängen am Trapez des Luftschiffes USS Macon ausgestattet und dienten zum Training für die neuen Piloten im Hook-on Verfahren.
