Entwicklung
The Westland Scout is a
light helicopter developed by Westland Helicopters. Developed from the
Saro P.531, it served as a land-based general purpose military
helicopter, sharing a common ancestor and numerous components with the
naval-orientated Westland Wasp helicopter. The first version that met
both Royal Navy and Army requirement, the P.531-2, flew on 9. August
1959 with a Bristol Siddeley Nimbus engine.
Wasp was essentially a navalised Scout, indeed it was originally to be
called the Sea Scout, and differed mainly in design details. It had a
unique 4-wheeled castering undercarriage that allowed the aircraft to be
manoeuvred on small, pitching flightdecks. The first flight of the
pre-production Wasp took place on 28 October 1962.
Der Westland Scout ist ein von
Westland Helicopters entwickelter Leichthubschrauber. Als Weiterentwicklung
des Saro P.531 diente er als landgestützter Allzweck-Militärhubschrauber,
der einen gemeinsamen Vorfahren und zahlreiche Komponenten mit dem Marine
orientierten West-land Wasp-Hubschrauber teilte. Die erste Version, die
sowohl die Royal Navy- als auch die Army-Anforderungen erfüllte, die
P.531-2, flog am 9. August 1959 mit einem Bristol Siddeley Nimbus-Motor.
Wasp war im Wesentlichen ein navalisierte Scout, eigentlich sollte er
ursprünglich Sea Scout genannt werden, und unterschied sich hauptsächlich in
Designdetails. Sie hatte ein einzigartiges vier-rädriges Nachlauffahrwerk,
mit dem der Hubschrau-ber auf kleinen, geneigten Flugdecks manövriert werden
konnte. Der Erstflug der Vorserien-Wasp fand am 28. Oktober 1962 statt.
