History 

1702 NAS formed at Lee-on-Solent on 1. June 1945 as a special service squadron with 6 Sea Otters. It sailed in Septenber 1945 for the Mediterranean in HMS Trouncer, and spent a short period on air sea rescue duties at RNAS Hal Fal, Malta before leaving for Greece to hunt for mines in the Eastern Mediterranean. This duty was continued in Tunisia fron May 1946, 1702 NAS returning to MaIta two months later. When the squadron disbanded at RNAS Ta Kali on 12. September 1946, a detachnent of three aircraft in HMS Ocean became its Stips Flight.
