History 

1849 NAS personnel assembled at NAD Townhill Camp in June 1944, then took passage to the USA where it officially fomed at NAS Brunswick, Maine on 1. Aungust 1944 as a single seater fighter squadron. Equipped with 8 Corsair IIIs, these were replaced by Corsair IVs shortly before embarking in HMS Reaper in November 1944 for the UK. Due to the high number of losses from accidents, it disbanded on arrival in the UK on 6. Decenber 1944, being shared between 1845 NAS and 1850 NAS .
