History 

The squadron officially formed for the first time at Palisadoes, Jamaica in June 1942 as a torpedo bomber reconnaissance Swordfish squadron, after working up in Miami the squadron embarked in HMS Battler in December 1942 for passage to New York, where it continued working up at NAS Quonset Point.
In March 1943 the squadron joined HMS Attacker for the UK, where it was allocated for MAC ship duties, embarking in MV Empire MacAndrew in July 1943. The squadron was disbanded in August 1943, becoming "M" Flight of 836 NAS.
