History

In November 1943, the squadron formed at NAS Squantum as a torpedo bomber reconnaissance Avenger squadron, and subsequently embarked on HMS Nabob in February 1944, disembarking at Machrihanish in April 1944.
In May 1944 a fighter flight of 4 Wildcat Vs was added, and in the following month the squadron embarked on HMS Nabob for operations off Norway. July was spent at RNAS Abbotsinch and RAF Machrihanish before re-embarking on HMS Nabob in the middle of the month again for Norway operations. However on 22 August 1944 HMS Nabob was badly damaged by a torpedo from U-354, and on its return to Scapa Flow the squadron was transferred to HMS Trumpeter.
The squadron was finally disbanded in October 1944.
