History 

In December 1943, the squadron formed at NAS Squantum as a torpedo bomber reconnaissance Avenger squadron, and subsequently embarked on HMS Arbiter in May 1944, disembarking at RAF Machrihanish in June 1944.
In June 1944 a fighter flight of 4 Wildcat Vs was added at RNAS Eglington with a short service on HMS Formidable.
The squadron embarked on HMS Tracker in September 1944 for Arctic Russia convoys, disembarking at RAF Machrihanish for RNAS Hatston.
In January 1945 the squadron embarked on HMS Queen for operations off Norway, and subsequently undertook further Arctic Russia convoys, finally disbanding in May 1945
