History 

The squadron formed at RNAS Lee-on-Solent in March 1943 as a Fleet Fighter unit with 12 Martlet IVs.
In June 1943 the squadron embarked on HMS Illustrious for operations around Iceland. 
In August 1943 the ship sailed for the Mediterranean where the squadron was involved in the landings at Salerno.
The squadron disembarked at Port Ellen in October 1943 where it re-equipped with 10 Martlet Vs, before transferring to RNAS Eglington. The squadron was disbanded in January 1945.
