The Brewster F2A Buffalo was an American fighter aircraft which saw limited service early in World War II. Though the Buffalo won a competition against the Grumman F4F- Wildcat in 1939 to become the U.S. Navy's first monoplane fighter aircraft, it turned out to be a big disappointment.

The F2A-3 variant saw action with U.S. Marine Corps squadrons at the Battle of Midway. Shown by the experience of Midway to be no match for the "Zero", the F2A-3 was derided by USMC pilots as a "flying coffin." The F2A-3, however, was significantly inferior to the F2A-2 variant used by the Navy before the outbreak of the war.

Die Brewster F2A Buffalo war ein amerikanisches Kampfflugzeug, das einen begrenzten Einsatz im Zweiten Weltkrieg hatte. Obwohl die Buffalo 1939 den Wettbewerb gegen die Grumman F4F- Wildcat als erster Jagdeindecker der U.S. Navy gewann war sie doch eine große Enttäuschung.

Die F2A-3-Variante wurde von den U.S. Marine Corps Staffeln in der Schlacht von Midway eingesetzt. Hier zeigte sich dass die Buffalo nicht gegen die "Zero" ankahm und wurde in der Folge als "fliegender Sarg" bezeichnet. Die F2A-3 war jedoch deutlich schlechter als die F2A-2-Variante von der Navy die vor den Ausbruch des Kroeges verwendet wurde.
