Air Power from the Sea’ is the slogan of the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton. The museum is one of the best we have ever seen. The editorial team led by Urs Schnyder and Michael E. Fader has visited the museum frequently over the past few decades. This fact alone shows that it is one of the world’s truly must-see museums.

The museum traces the history of the Royal Navy and the Fleet Air Arm. From the first fragile aircraft such as the Short S27 and the Sopwith Pub to modern fighters like the Hawker Harrier FRS2. The Fleet Air Arm was a pioneer in the development of aircraft operating from ships and, above all, in the construction of aircraft carriers. Today, the once-great Fleet Air Arm operates just one helicopter carrier, HMS Ocean. Fixed-wing aircraft have completely disappeared from the FAA’s inventory.

Urs Schnyder visited the museum in 2012, having previously visited it in 1983 and 2007. He also managed to take excellent photos of the carrier deck using long exposure.
