 The Mil Mi-17 is a Russian helicopter in production at two factories in Kazan and Ulan-Ude. It is known as the Mi-8M series in Russian service. It is a medium twin-turbine transport helicopter. There are also armed gunship versions. Developed from the basic Mi-8 airframe, the Mi-17 was fitted with the larger Klimov TV3-117MT engines, rotors, and transmission developed for the Mi-14, along with fuselage improvements for heavier loads.   Der Mil Mi-17 ist ein russischer Hubschrauber in Produktion in zwei Fabriken in Kasan und Ulan-Ude. Es ist bekannt als die Mi-8M-Serie im russischen Dienst. Es ist ein mittelgroßer zweimotoriger Transporthubschrauber. Es gibt auch bewaffnete Kampfhubschrauber-Versionen. Die Mi-17 wurde auf der Basis der Mi-8-Flugzeugzelle entwickelt und mit größeren Klimov TV3-117MT-Triebwerken, Rotoren und Getrieben für die Mi-14 sowie Verbesserungen am Rumpf für schwerere Lasten ausgestattet.

 In October 2008, the Royal Thai Army ordered six Mi-17 Hip transport helicopters. This is currently the only Russian-made model in service with the RTA. In January 2011, the first three aircraft were delivered to U-Tapao (air transport in an AN-124 RA-82078) and handed over on 28 March 2011. Three more aircraft were approved on 8 October 2013.
The three Mi-17V5s to date are operated by the 11th Infantry Regiment in Bang Khaen near Bangkok.		   Im Oktober 2008 bestellt die Thailändische Armee sechs Mi-17 Hip Transporthubschrauber. Es ist bisher der einige Typ russischer Produktion im Dienst der RTA. Im Januar 2011 wurden die ersten drei Maschinen nach U-Tapao geliefert (Lufttransport in einer AN-124 RA-82078) und am 28. März 2011 übergeben. Drei weitere Maschinen wurden am 8. Oktober 2013 bewilligt.
Die bisher drei Mi-17V5 werden vom 11. Infanterie Regiment in Bang Khaen bei Bangkok betrieben.
