Built on behalf of the U.S. Navy, it was designed as a flying test-bed for a partially loaded rotor system. Basically, this was a KD-1B autogyro with a Jacobs engine in the nose, originally built in 1939 and converted by the addition of stub wings, each tip of which was to carry an engine .
Er wurde im Auftrag der U.S. Navy gebaut und war als fliegendes Testgerät für ein teilweise beladenes Rotorsystem konzipiert. Im Grunde genommen handelte es sich um einen KD-1B-Tragschrauber mit einem Jacobs-Motor in der Nase, der ursprüng-lich im Jahr 1939 gebaut und durch die Ver-wendung von Stummelflügeln, die jeweils einen Motor tragen sollten, umgebaut wurde.
