North American T-28 Trojan

The T-28B Trojan entered Naval service in 1952 after a decision to standardize Air Force and Navy training. The Navy ordered 489 T-28Bs equipped with engines almost twice the horsepower of the T-28A. An additional 299 Trojans, the T-28Cs, were ordered with arresting gear and used for carrier qualifications of flight students in intermediate training. The T-28 was a primary and intermediate training aircraft for the Navy for over 30 years. During the Vietnam war, the T-28 was used in covert operations and proved effective against fast moving targets but flew low and slow and was highly vulnerable to ground fire. 

Die T-28B Trojan wurde 1952 in den Dienst des Naval Service genommen nachdem die Air Force und die Navy das Training standardisierten. Die Marine bestellt 489 T-28Bs ausgestattet mit Motoren die fast doppelt so stark waren wie die der T-28A. Zusätzlich wurden 299 Trojans für Träger-einsätze bestellt. die  T-28Cs waren mit Fang-haken und Ausrüstung für die Träger Qualifika-ionen von Flug Studenten ausgerüstet. Die T-28 war ein Grund- und Mittelstufen Trainingsflugzeug für die Marine über 30 Jahren im Einsatz. Während des Vietnam-Krieges, wurde die T-28 in verdeckten Operationen eingesetzt und erwies sich als wirksam gegen kleine bewegliche Ziele aber auch verwundbar gegen Feuer vom Boden.

U.S. Navy Version mit 1.425 PS Wright R-1820-86A oder -86B Sternmotor, Dreiblattpropeller, Luftbremse unter dem Rumpf; 489 gebaut.

T-28C

U.S. Navy version, a T-28B with shortened propeller blades and tailhook for carrier-landing training; 266 built.

T-28C

U.S. Navy-Version, der T-28B mit verkürzten Propellerblättern und Fanghaken für das Training von  Trägerlandungen; 266 gebaut.

Operational history

Einsatzgeschichte

The T-28B and the C where used by the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marines as basic trainer and also as advanced trainer. Some planes where used in the utilliy role.

Die T-28B und C wurde von der U.S. Navy und den U.S. Marines als Basistrainer und teilweise Fortgeschrittenen Trainer verwendet. Daneben wurde die Maschine oft als Verbindungsmaschine eingesetzt.
