Entwicklung

-The Noroit was an amphibian flying boat designed for the French Navy, a cantilever gullwing monoplane with a two-step hull. It had a cantilever horizontal tail surface with three vertical surfaces. It had an enclosed cabin for the seven crew with a large cabin in the rear for use in rescue operations. The aircraft had two engines located one on each wing leading edge. The prototype as a flying boat first flew on 6 January 1949 powered by two 1,600 hp Gnome-Rhône 14R radial engines.

The second aircraft was fitted with a retractable tailwheel landing gear for amphibious operation which was later retrofitted to the prototype. The next two aircraft first flown in 1949 were designated the Nord 1401 Noroit and were fitted with two 1,800 hp Junkers Jumo 213 engines and both were also tested with two Bristol Hercules radial engines. These two aircraft were modified to production standard as the Nord 1402 Noroit and were followed by 21 production aircraft. The last aircraft was delivered to the French Navy in 1956.

Die Noroit war ein Amphibienflugboot, das für die französische Marine entworfen wurde, ein frei-tragender Hochdecker mit einem zweistufigen Rumpf. Es hatte eine freitragende horizontale Leit-werksfläche mit drei vertikalen Flächen. Sie hatte eine geschlossene Kabine für die siebenköpfige Besatzung mit einer grossen Kabine im Heck für Rettungseinsätze. Das Flugzeug hatte zwei Motoren, die sich an jeder Flügelvorderkante befanden. Der Prototyp als Flugboot flog erstmals am 6. Januar 1949, angetrieben von zwei 1.600 PS starken Gnome-Rhône 14R Sternmotoren.
Das zweite Flugzeug war mit einem einziehbaren Spornradfahrwerk für den Amphibienbetrieb ausge-stattet, das später am Prototyp nachgerüstet wurde. Die nächsten beiden Flugzeuge, die erst-mals 1949 geflogen wurden, hiessen Nord 1401 Noroit und waren mit zwei 1.800 PS starken Junkers Jumo 213-Triebwerken ausgestattet, und beide wurden auch mit zwei Bristol Hercules-Sternmotoren getestet. Diese beiden Flugzeuge wurden als Nord 1402 Noroit auf Produktions-standard umgebaut, gefolgt von 21 Serienflug-zeugen. Das letzte Flugzeug wurde 1956 an die französische Marine ausgeliefert.

Einsatzgeschichte

The Nord 1400 series proved unsuitable in use as a replacement for the Catalina in the reconnaissance and SAR role. Less than two years later, the type was declared unserviceable and the 5F was disbanded as early as 1. February 1953. For training purposes, the Noroit was also used on the 53S in Hourtin.

Die Nord 1400 Serie erwies sich im Einsatz als Ersatz für die Catalina in der Aufklärungs- und SAR- Rolle als ungeeignet. Weniger als zwei Jahre später wurde der Typ für nicht einsatzbereit erklärt, und die 5F wurde bereits am 1. Februar 1953 wieder aufgelöst. Für Schulungszwecke wurde die Noroit auch bei der 53S in Hourtin eingesetzt.
