History
|
1820
NAS forned at NAS Brunswick, Maine, USA on 1. April 1944 as a dive
bomber squadron equipped wlth 9 Helldiver Is. After work-up these
embarked in HMS Arbiter in July for passage to the UK, but the type
was found unsatisfactory for its intended pupose, the squadron
losing several aircraft and crews through accidents, including three
aircraft which failed to pull out of vertical dives. 1820 NAS was
therefore disbanded at RNAS Burscough on 16. December 1944.
